Every day young hospo workers face humiliating and sexually suggestive remarks from customers, managers and co-workers, as well as being bullied, groped and threatened.
Our survey of more than 400 young women in hospo found that 89% have been sexually harassed at work, 19% have been sexually assaulted. Meanwhile, just 36% felt their employers took the issue seriously.
It’s got to stop. And that’s why hundreds of hospo workers have come together to develop a powerful campaign plan to make venues safe for everyone. Since we launched Respect Is The Rule, we have been on The Project, Junkee, Nine News, Broadsheet and The Age.
Already more than 50 venues have signed our Respect Is The Rule Pledge. This means they've agreed to a zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment, and will use these resources to prevent it. They will train managers and staff about sexual harassment, what it is, how to guard against it and support staff who've been harassed or assaulted. They will also put up posters in the venue and a sticker on their window so everyone knows sexual harassment will not be tolerated.
Whether you're a worker or a patron, everyone deserves to be safe in our hospo venues. Below are the venues that have signed our Respect Is The Rule pledge. Please support them.
